DC-3001 COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMME (COP)

Description

Community Outreach Programme or simply known as COP is one of the educational opportunities available during the Discovery Year to allow students a chance of giving back to the community. This programme fosters the significance of moral and social responsibility for community either local or abroad with regards to education, health, welfare, entrepreneurship, unemployment, social ills and etc. Students undergo this programme will work in teams with the guidance of COP Coordinator and host agency supervisors from both Government and Non-Government agencies.

Community Outreach Programme (COP) carries sixteen modular credit and open to any students in the Faculty. Students can either choose to undergo Community Outreach Programme in Semester One or Semester Two. Students will be assessed based on their completion of task, reports and supervisor evaluation from COP Coordinator and Host Agencies. At the end of the Programme, students involved will provide a video presentation as part of their total assessment.


Learning Goals

  • Provides awareness on the importance of social responsibility
  • Enable students to develop the habits of volunteerism
  • Encourage students to be more responsible, self-reliant and independent particularly in learning new or other cultures in the region or abroad
  • Anticipate studentΒ’s creativeness, initiative and make full use of their knowledge and skills in completing their tasks
  • Enhance the studentsΒ’ soft skills in terms of their interpersonal and communication skills, leadership, teamwork, entrepreneurship, creativity, planning, management, handling tough negotiation and solving conflicts.

  • Collaboration with Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah
    • Improving Socio-Economic and Education Intervention at Kg Bolkiah – Frozen and Dried Food Project, Gallery Project and Library Project
    • Survey & Interview for Underprivileged Households

  • Tutoring at various schools under the management of Prince Songkla University, Yala Islamic University and Universiti Airlangga Indonesia.

  • Collaboration with Health Promotion Centre - Increasing knowledge on Healthy Lifestyles among Year 7 and Year 8 Government Secondary school students in Brunei Darussalam

  • Collaboration with Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam

  • Collaboration with SMARTER – UBDSBE Fun Run & Cycle 2013: 800 people involved with almost 700 runners and cyclist, 15 COP working committee and volunteers.

  • Collaboration with Dewan Bahasa Pustaka.
